Turn to 10: Bill would retain protections for people facing foreclosure
(WJAR) — Rhode Island public officials are urging the General Assembly to preserve protections for homeowners facing foreclosure.
They've planned an event for Monday in Providence. They want lawmakers to pass legislation to repeal the July 1 sunset on the state's foreclosure mediation act, which ensures that homeowners who can't pay their mortgage can meet with their lender and mediator to review options for staying in the home.
Attorney General Peter Kilmartin, state Sen. Harold Metts, state Rep. Mary Messier and the mayors of Providence, Warwick and Pawtucket plan to attend.
