ProJo: Raimondo, Ruggerio pledge focus on affordable housing in 2020

The push to make housing in Rhode Island more affordable ramped up Tuesday at the annual State House “Fighting Poverty with Faith Vigil,” as Gov. Gina Raimondo, Senate President Dominick Ruggerio and faith leaders spotlighted the issue on the day lawmakers returned to the capitol for the start of another legislative year.

Access to housing is “essential,” Ruggerio said. “The Senate will work to ensure adequate funding for affordable housing, and to remove barriers to housing development at all levels.”

Raimondo said the vigil focuses priorities in the right place, and one of hers is “making sure everybody has affordable housing, a safe warm place to lie their head on a pillow at night and not be going to school after sleeping in a car the night before.”
