ProJo: Raimondo launches $7-million rental assistance program with United Way

PROVIDENCE — Gov. Gina Raimondo on Friday unveiled a $7-million initiative with the United Way of Rhode Island to provide tenants with help paying back rent and securing legal representation, with a goal of reaching resolutions outside of the court and keeping people in their homes.

“This is meant to immediately provide relief to our most vulnerable families,” Raimondo said at her coronavirus news briefing.

The so-called Safe Harbor program is being paid for through the CARES Act, the massive federal package intended to help states weather fallout from the pandemic.
