ProJo: Providence hotel planned for site next to the state's largest social-services agency serving the homeless


PROVIDENCE — Residents of South Providence expressed skepticism Monday night about a Holiday Inn Express that developers are proposing to build adjacent to Crossroads Rhode Island.

Among the concerns of attendees at Monday night's meeting hosted by the South Providence Neighborhood Association were the hotel's location next to the state's largest social-services agency serving the homeless population, and its function in a city that is in the midst of a housing crisis.

“We don't need another hotel,” said Malchus Mills, a member of Direct Action for Rights and Equality, an organization advocating for low-income residents in the city. “We're barely housing the folks that are here.
