ProJo: Opinion/Wright and Wood: More protections needed against evictions

Terri Wright is a housing justice organizer of the Tenant and Homeowner Association at Direct Action for Rights and Equality (DARE). Jennifer Wood is the executive director of the Rhode Island Center for Justice.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention extended the federal eviction moratorium for nonpayment of rent to June 30. But COVID cases remain high, and this moratorium doesn't cover every renter — only nonpayment cases. Landlords have found loopholes by claiming alternate reasons for eviction or not renewing leases.
