ProJo: Letter: Jean Repose: People with bad credit can't easily rent apartments
I read the May 23 column about homelessness in Rhode Island and that poor woman living under a bridge near the mall (“Under a bridge near Providence Place”). This is sad.
One of the biggest problems is that landlords, including the federal Department of Housing and Community Development, will not give people a chance if they have bad credit or no credit. I know of a family living out of a motel right now, paying $600 a week to stay there, because landlords won't give them a chance. They also have two very small dogs and their dogs are part of the family and help them keep their sanity through this ordeal.
