ProJo: In Pawtucket, 2 homeless men killed on highways remembered in vigil

PAWTUCKET — Two Rhode Island men, both known to live on the streets, both fatally injured as pedestrians this fall, were remembered at a candlelight vigil on Monday night.

Both John Gauthier, a 50-year-old man with ties to Pawtucket, and Peter Weaver, a 56-year-old whom authorities identified as a Cranston man, faced grave dangers recently when they became pedestrians on interstate highways not designed for pedestrian activity.

On Sept. 16, Gauthier was hit and killed by a vehicle that struck him on Route 95 near Exit 1 and the Pawtucket line in Attleboro, according to a Journal report.
