ProJo: Census count of the homeless is important

The decennial census was mandated in the U.S. Constitution and has been conducted every 10 years since 1790. The results are used in order to determine the number of seats in the U.S. House of Representatives from each district and the distribution of billions of federal dollars.

Rhode Island is in danger of losing a House seat to other states with growing populations. One-third of our state budget expenditures of approximately $10 billion per year is funded by federal sources. The current Rhode Island response rate to the 2020 Census is 59.9% There are many hard-to count groups for the U.S.
