PPS: The numbers tell all: RI is powered by preservation

Did you know that preservation adds $1.4 billion annually to the Rhode Island economy?

A groundbreaking study of the impacts of historic preservation in Rhode Island was released this week, citing stats that make a very strong case for safeguarding our historic resources. Heritage tourism and jobs created through the historic tax credit are major economic drivers, and preservation adds significantly to both quality of life and environmental sustainability here in the Ocean State. This is especially true in Providence, a magnet for cultural tourism and home to hundreds of historic tax credit projects and eight local historic districts.

We applaud the project team- Preservation Society of Newport County, Preserve Rhode Island and PlaceEconomics- for delivering this valuable report and including advisors from PPS. Here is a clip from Wednesday's press event: Wednesday's press event.

"The identification, protection, and enhancement of Rhode Island's historic resources pays economic, social, and environmental dividends today and will pay well into the future." -RI historic preservation study

Our mission to improve Providence by advocating for historic preservation and the enhancement of the city's unique character through thoughtful design and planning pays dividends for each and every Rhode Islander, and we must keep the momentum going.
