Newport Daily News: What happens when a community doesn't meet the 10% affordable housing requirement?

There's a state requirement that 10% of housing units in each community be affordable, yet there continues to be a shortage of affordable housing available in most communities.

Only six of the 39 municipalities — Newport, Providence, Woonsocket, Central Falls, Burrillville and New Shoreham — meet or exceed that 10% requirement, according to an affordable housing analysis recently completed by Keystone Consulting Group.
