SOUTH KINGSTOWN - With the preservation of open space and affordable housing availability both recognized as crucial elements to South Kingstown's vitality, is it possible for the town to successfully achieve both?

It's a question the town council has begun to grapple with, particularly as it works on writing its future goals and objectives.

During a work session last Tuesday between the council and the planning board, the two bodies dove into a discussion over the town's land use goals—which Town Manager Robert Zarnetske described as “long-term” and non-specific—and the objectives required to get there.

“What do you want your grandkids to see when they come to visit?” Zarnetske said. “These are things that happen in the long run. They're not things that are going to happen any time soon, but it's important for us to get there.”
