Cumberland Seeks Town Planner

Summary: The Town of Cumberland seeks a Town Planner to work in a municipal office environment that encourages collaboration and opportunity for professional growth. The Town Planner's principal responsibility is to propose, prepare, administer and maintain records for Community Development Block Grant projects and programs as well as grants from other private, state and federal sources. He/she will prepare status reports on all grant projects; insure that funded projects are in compliance with local, State and Federal regulations; and perform related work as required.

The Town Planner also helps the Director scrutinize land development proposals, and research and draft Department recommendations for improving Cumberland's quality of life. Candidates should demonstrate excellent writing skills, and familiarity with grant administration and laws and regulations relating to land development. Candidates must be committed to the principles of smart growth, sustainability and urban design, and be able to identify and promote strategic opportunities to protect and enhance the quality of life for all Cumberland citizens.

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Public Administration, Urban Studies, Landscape Architecture or related field and have one year of government or other related experience. Desirable qualifications include: a Master's Degree in Planning, Public Administration or related field; familiarity with ArcGIS and SketchUp; and experience with landscape and streetscape design.

Salary: The salary for this 35 hour per week position is $48,600 with excellent benefits. There is an opportunity for a salary review after six months of service. Occasional night meetings are required. This is a non-union appointment subject to confirmation by the Town Council.
