State and Regional Housing Policy

Stable, affordable and accessible housing makes a significant difference in the lives of Rhode Islanders–providing a firm foundation upon which to build lives.

From families finding refuge and new direction for their lives in an emergency shelter to persons with disabilities living independently in supportive housing to immigrant families reaffirming the American Dream of buying their first home, thousands of Rhode Islanders' lives are positively effected by getting into a long-term affordable home.

A network of cooperating state agencies, non-profit organizations and private sector stakeholders work together to provide the housing Rhode Islanders need.

Beyond the stakeholders that provide funding and develop and build the housing, the state's general laws and municipal ordinances, including zoning, provide a framework for how and what kind of housing is developed.

The path to economic opportunity begins at your front door.
