HousingWorks RI looks to address housing issues
By ANDREW THORNEBROOKE | athornebrooke@ricentral.com
EAST GREENWICH--HousingWorks RI delivered a presentation to the town council Monday to implore the town to consider better avenues of increasing access to affordable housing. Brenda Clement, director of HousingWorks RI, addressed the council in an effort to drum up support and highlight the tumultuous future that likely await towns that do not prepare for increased housing in the present.
"Nothing works in your life if you don't have that safe and decent place to go home to everyday," Clement said. "We have seen report after report and study after study that the pathway to educational achievement and the pathway to healthy lifestyles is good, safe and affordable housing."
Attendees of the meeting were offered a look through a HousingWorks packet entitled "You Don't Have a Problem Until You Do," aimed at addressing the increasing crisis of gentrification that cities across the nation are facing.
