Officials urge caution on Ann & Hope transformation

A nonprofit in Rhode Island is hosting its 26th annual outreach weekend to provide services to homeless veterans and veterans who are at risk of becoming homeless.

Operation Stand Down Rhode Island will host its annual Outreach Stand Down Weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14-16, at Diamond Hill Park, 4097 Diamond Hill Road, in Cumberland.

The Cumberland Housing Authority has been designated a high performer by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, based on its most recent Public Housing Assessment System score of 96, stated a release from the Cumberland agency.

House sales increased in Rhode Island for the fifth consecutive year in 2017, creating a “hot” market despite falling inventory, according to the Rhode Island Association of Realtors.

The Town of Cumberland seeks a Town Planner to work in a municipal office environment that encourages collaboration and opportunity for professional growth. The Town Planner’s principal responsibility is to propose, prepare, administer and maintain records for Community Development Block Grant projects and programs as well as grants from other private, state and federal sources. He/she will prepare status reports on all grant projects; insure that funded projects are in compliance with local, State and Federal regulations; and perform related work as required.

It was a solid summer for home sales, say local real estate agents, with many buyers of smaller homes getting into bidding wars and paying higher than asking prices. But for those thinking of selling their home into this “seller’s market,” they shouldn’t get too excited, say agents. Prices are merely firming up – finally.

Several Rhode Island towns are facing negative impacts after being notified in late July that many of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) applications for local programs and agencies will not receive the funding they typically see. Locally, six social services programs applied for a total of $136,702 to fund several projects in the area, and after the meeting in late July, East Greenwich, along with many other towns across the state, were notified that none of their applications from the Plan Year 2016 will receive funding.
