Newport Daily News: Tiverton board has concerns over condo proposal

A 72-acre farm in the south end of town is being eyed for 70 condominiums restricted to people older than the age of 55. Wingover Farm is at 1513-1519 Crandall Road in an area of town that does not have public water or sewer service. The density of the development concerns the Planning Board because the development would have to rely on wells and septic systems.

Patch: Woonsocket To Collect Affordable Housing Money From Feds

From the Office of U.S. Congressmen David N. Cicilline: U.S. Congressmen David N. Cicilline (D-RI) and Jim Langevin (D-RI) announced that Rhode Island community organizations are receiving nearly $450,000 through NeighborWorks America to support affordable housing and revitalizing local communities. NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley is receiving a grant of $258,000, while the West Elmwood Housing Development Corp. is receiving $188,000 in new funds.

In 2016, there were 1,580 evictions in Providence, which breaks down to an average of 4.3 evictions every single day of the year. For the entire state of Rhode Island, there were 5,069 evictions in 2016, or nearly 14 a day.

The Block Island Times: Council expands employee housing proposal

After its initial housing proposal was met with criticism from some members of the public, the New Shoreham Town Council went back to the drawing board and is now proposing that the 2.5-acre Thomas property be used for a community housing campus consisting of two separate dwellings that would house a total of seven town employees. The estimated cost for the project is about $1.5 million.
