An animated look at long-term affordable housing in Rhode Island

HousingWorks RI this week released a three-minute animated short to raise awareness about the need for long-term affordable housing in Rhode Island.

The script was written in-house and the organization worked with local company They’re Using Tools, owned by RISD alum Melinda Rainsberger, to bring the storyboard to life. The result may seem like pure entertainment, but the messaging still depicts the seriousness of the issue.

Building Homes Rhode Island: Growing the Economy, Building Communities

In 2006, voters in Rhode Island overwhelmingly passed a $50 million housing bond to build affordable homes in the Ocean State. Building Homes Rhode Island is the state program created to disburse $12.5 million a year over four years. This video documents the progress made through Building Homes Rhode Island during its first three years.

Rhode Island Voters Support Public Investment in Affordable Homes

Despite the deflated housing market, voters in Rhode Island still see the lack of affordable housing as a big problem in the Ocean State. According to a recent telephone survey of 504 likely voters, Rhode Islanders across demographic lines support public investment in affordable housing. HousingWorks RI commissioned Hart Research Associates, a leading national survey research firm, to conduct the survey and released the findings in May.
