Sandywoods Farm in Tiverton named a finalist

Sandywoods Farm in Tiverton, Rhode Island has been named among the finalists for Affordable Housing Finance (AHF) magazine's 6th annual Readers' Choice Awards.

In an article in their July/August issue entitled The Nation's Best, AHF describes how they received 140 nominations this year, from which they carefully selected the 33 finalists in nine categories. Sandywoods Farm is one of three finalists named in the Master-Planned/Mixed-Use category.

Developed by Church Community Housing Corporation, Sandywoods Farm is an innovative development organizing rural housing around the perimeter of a larger agricultural preserve, 29 acres of which will be farmed by the residents along with a resident farmer. It was designed to include 50 rental cottages and 24 single-family homes, two of which will go to first-time homebuyers.

Of the total cost involved, $2,740,000 was awarded to this development through the Building Homes Rhode Island program. Other major funders include Rhode Island Housing, Rhode Island LISC, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston, the Town of Tiverton, the Rhode Island Foundation, the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation, Citizens Bank, and the Rhode Island Department of Energy.
