White Paper: "The U.S. Housing Market: Current Conditions and Policy Considerations"

The Federal Reserve has released a White Paper entitled "The U.S. Housing Market: Current Conditions and Policy Considerations". The report examines specific issues that have hindered a recovery in housing, and outlines suggestions to address these issues.

Some of the issues examined in the report are:

- The large inventory of foreclosed or surrendered properties
- Obstacles limiting access to mortgage credit
- The hidden costs of the foreclosure crisis
- and more

The report concludes that "restoring the health of the housing market is a necessary part of a broader strategy for economic recovery".

An article in The Valley Breeze about a new affordable duplex rental in Cumberland, RI highlights the collaborative effort, including funding from the Building Homes Rhode Island program, that brought it to fruition.

Affordable housing coming to North Smithfield

An article posted on turnto10.com reports that a new affordable housing development, to be known as Marshfield Commons, is under construction in North Smithfield.

The development will feature 17 buildings, with 38 rental units in the area of Mechanic Street.

75 percent of the eight acre parcel will be maintained as open space.

New England Construction is the company working on the project and NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley is the developer.
