Tiverton recognized with a 2011 Partners in Housing Award

The town of Tiverton, RI was recognized with the 'Municipal Award' at the 2011 Partners in Housing Awards ceremony held last week at the State House.

Created by Rhode Island Housing, the Awards honor members of the housing community who demonstrate outstanding commitment and achievement in ensuring affordable and healthy homes for all Rhode Islanders.

Accepting the award on behalf of the Town was Christopher P. Spencer, Tiverton's Town Planner and members of the Town Council, Robert D. Coulter, David M. Nelson, and Edward A. Roderick.

Lead Funds Announcement: $3.1M for Rhode Island

The availability of $3.1 million for lead paint hazard control and lead awareness programs in Rhode Island was announced at a news conference Monday morning at Rhode Island Housing. Attending alongside the many supporters present were U.S. Senator Jack Reed, U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and U.S. Representative David Cicilline.

Bourne Mill in Tiverton Named Finalist

The Bourne Mill development in Tiverton has been named a finalist in the Best Historic Rehabilitation Utilizing Low-Income Housing Tax Credits category for the National Housing and Rehabilitation Association's 2010 Historic Rehabilitation Awards. The Bourne Mill apartments include 66 affordable homes funded in part with $2.52 million from the Building Homes Rhode Island program.

The award ceremony is scheduled for October 19 in Boston, Massachusetts. 14 finalists from ten states were named in six categories. Read more at the NH&RA website.

Sandywoods Farm in Tiverton named a finalist

Sandywoods Farm in Tiverton, Rhode Island has been named among the finalists for Affordable Housing Finance (AHF) magazine's 6th annual Readers' Choice Awards.

In an article in their July/August issue entitled The Nation's Best, AHF describes how they received 140 nominations this year, from which they carefully selected the 33 finalists in nine categories. Sandywoods Farm is one of three finalists named in the Master-Planned/Mixed-Use category.

BHRI Investments Leveraged by Bank of America Funds

An article in this week's Providence Business News (PBN) highlights the significant financial contributions that Bank of America has made towards building affordable homes in Rhode Island. The two featured developments, Bourne Mill and Stillwater, are also being built with Building Homes RI (BHRI) funds.

In 2008, Bank of America announced its intention to devote $1.5 trillion to community development throughout the United States over ten years, with a special focus on underserved communities, low and moderate income populations, and minority customers.
