An animated look at long-term affordable housing in Rhode Island
Published on May 4, 2011
HousingWorks RI this week released a three-minute animated short to raise awareness about the need for long-term affordable housing in Rhode Island.
The script was written in-house and the organization worked with local company They’re Using Tools, owned by RISD alum Melinda Rainsberger, to bring the storyboard to life. The result may seem like pure entertainment, but the messaging still depicts the seriousness of the issue.
Rhode Island has been plagued with high rates of unemployment and foreclosures, and continues to be the most housing cost-burdened state in New England. A public investment in long-term affordable housing programs, like Building Homes Rhode Island and the Neighborhood Opportunities Program, will simultaneously produce long-term affordable housing, boost our economy, and provide quality homes to thousands of Rhode Islanders.
We encourage you to share the video to help to spread the message so that all Rhode Islanders, regardless of income, can live in quality affordable homes in a vibrant and thriving Ocean State!
