Shelley Graham
Newport
Shelley lives in Harbor House, affordable apartments for seniors created by Church Community Housing overlooking Newport Harbor.
"When I was in the foreign service, before I retired, I was thinking and asking some friends if I should buy a house. I was thinking that I would buy a house, that I’d be able to afford a house. That was before reality set in. I really cannot afford a house. It’s that simple. I cannot afford it.
I came to Newport because my sister had always lived in Newport and she had a bad car accident. Then when I heard about Harbor House, I put my name in there.
I live alone now, and I’m not sure that I’d be happy in a house alone. I like the idea of living where there are people around. I love privacy, I don’t mean I want them around constantly! But I do feel safer with people around. For me, it’s a plus.
And the view is a plus!"
