Question 9: An investment in RI's future
The HousingWorks RI co-chairs penned an op-ed in this week's Providence Business News in support of Question 9, an investment that will pay off for our state in the long run.
The co-chairs urged readers, "...Think about the new biotech researcher attracted to Rhode Island, the young accountant and her family evaluating a job offer here, the nonprofit program manager who wants to call Rhode Island home. Your vote - your investment - could make the difference in their ability to live here, pay taxes here and contribute to our economic and civic vitality. That investment, like all good investment, is sure to pay dividends for years to come."

RI ranks last in housing growth
The Providence Business News also ran a feature article analyzing Rhode Island's last-place ranking for housing growth (according to new statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau).
Rhode Island produced 1,505 new homes between 2004 and 2005, a growth rate of 0.3 percent. Massachusetts and Connecticut each saw a 0.6-percent increase in housing stock during the same period.
"We need to make sure that there is a sufficient housing supply," said Saul Kaplan, executive director of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation, a HousingWorks RI member. "It's not just the number of units; it's the mix of units."
