New "Money" magazine report: Providence leads nation in housing appreciation
A recent report by Money magazine ranks Providence first in the growth of housing prices among American cities last year. This statistic has serious implications for the health of the city's neighborhoods and economy.
The study reports the median Providence sales price jumped 52.4 percent from 2004 to 2005. The median price of a single family house in Providence jumped from $75,000 to $210,000 from 1999 to 2005, while the average monthly rent for a two-bedroom apartment increased to $1,097 in 2005.
