Statewide march to fight homelessness, support HousingWorks RI platform
On May 21, Rhode Islanders will launch a five-day, statewide march with a strong message: we know how to end homelessness in Rhode Island. Organizers of "The Journey Home" have endorsed the HousingWorks RI 2006 policy platform as an important step toward solving Rhode Island's housing crisis.
HousingWorks RI is proud to support The Journey Home. We hope you'll lend your support, too. The march will begin in Westerly on Sunday, May 21 and culminate on Thursday, May 25 with a 3:30 PM rally at the State House. Press conferences and community outreach events are planned along the route. You can march the entire route or take part at any point along the way.
The march is being coordinated by the Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless, Statewide Housing Action Coalition and People to End Homelessness. For more information or to register, click here.

Providence housing strategy released
Providence Mayor David N. Cicilline last week released a 5-year housing plan for the city, "Create, Preserve, Revitalize: Providence Housing Policy."
The plan identifies several strategies to increase the city's supply of affordable apartments and rentals, including maximizing existing funding sources, expediting permit processing, and waiving fees for affordable housing development when possible.
Mayor Cicilline also recognized public and nonprofit partners who have helped expand Providence's supply of affordable homes. The Mayor's Affordable Housing Production Award was presented to SWAP, Inc., and the West Elmwood Housing Development Corporation received the Mayor's Affordable Housing Partnership Award.
