House Finance Committee hearing a success
At its hearing last Friday, the House Finance Committee heard strong support for the HousingWorks RI platform from a diverse group of community leaders.
Providence Mayor David Cicilline spoke about the importance of the bond for local communities and said, “The state has increased its commitment in the Neighborhood Opportunities Program to $7.5 million, which is good but far short of what we need. The state spends $7 million each year for nursing and dentistry services in our prisons…The $75 million bond is a high impact investment that is good for the economy, taxpayers and our shared quality of life.”
Also testifying in support of the platform were Mike Paruta of Women & Infants Hospital, J. Clement “Bud” Cicilline of the Newport County Community Mental Health Center, Charles Newton of Rhode Island LISC, Susan Bodington of Rhode Island Housing, and Ari Matusiak of HousingWorks RI.
