East Providence is a city in Providence County, Rhode Island. The city has a total area of 16.6 square miles, of which 3.2 square miles is water. It was incorporated as a town in 1812, and as a city in 1958. The City of East Providence is governed by a five member elected City Council, which sets all city policies and ordinances. The day-to-day operations of the City is conducted by the City Manager, who is selected by the City Council and serves for a fixed contract.
