The Sun: WARM Center is among recipients of $6 million in grants for homeless

U.S. Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., announced Friday that Rhode Island would receive $6,050,330 in federal federal Continuum of Care grants for Rhode Island homeless assistance programs.

Reed's office said that the money, administered by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, would support 32 homeless assistance projects around the state that enable local providers to deliver affordable housing and supportive services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The WARM shelter in Westerly and its supportive housing project is in line for $56,230.

Reed, ranking member of the appropriations subcommittee for HUD, made the announcement shortly after a tentative agreement was reached on ending the government shutdown. He noted that HUD had been affected by the government stalemate, and he called on the Trump Administration to swiftly make the funds available.

The subcommittee, headed by Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, helped make the funds available by including more than $2.5 billion in targeted homeless assistance for fiscal year 2018, $130 million more than in fiscal year 2017.
