Lead is a powerful neurotoxin that is all around us: in the paint on our walls, our soil, our pipes, and our homes. This panel is for law students, working professionals, and folks in the wider RWU community who want to learn about what lead is and how to address it in our homes. Meet the attorneys, organizers, and health advocates who sued the paint companies twenty years ago, and the young organizers and attorneys who are leading the fight today. Hear from recent graduates about how YOU can build a career in public interest right here in Rhode Island.

It’s a crisis that students at Roger Williams University School of Law are addressing head-on through the Rhode Island Tenant Stabilization Project, aimed at helping low-income tenants who face eviction and possible homelessness.

  • ProJo: In PVD, half the high school students missed at least 10 percent of school days last year. The state officials now in charge say that has to change

    About half of all Providence high school students missed 18 days of school or more last year. In some schools, those rates were even higher. At Hope and Central high schools, for example, about 63% of kids were absent at least 18 days, or 10 percent of the 180-day school year. With Providence schools now under control of the state, officials say improving the attendance of students in the city has to be a priority.
