PROVIDENCE -- Work is expected to begin this summer on the Palmer Pointe affordable housing development in Barrington, first proposed in 2012.
Last week, Rhode Island Housing’s Board of Commissioners approved a financing package for the $13.8 million project, which includes 40 rentals at the main site, a riverfront parcel of about 9 acres off Sowams Road, and 6 new units at Sweetbriar, an existing development on the west side of Barrington.
“Everyone is just really excited” to get started, said Diane Medeiros, executive director of the nonprofit East Bay Community Development Corp., the developer. She said work will begin soon at Sweetbriar, and an official ground-breaking is planned at Palmer Pointe after the July 4th holiday.
