The moment we’ve all been waiting on baited breath for finally happened this week, as Amazon revealed the 20 finalists for its second headquarters, commonly referred to as Amazon HQ2.

Chief Operating Officer of Crossroads Rhode Island, Michelle Wilcox says in 2017 their organization served over 3,200 individuals. She says while they know the solution to homelessness is housing, the Rhode Island economy makes it difficult because housing prices are high, and vacancy rates are extremely low, which drives the cost of hosing up even further. Another challenge for helping the homeless population in Rhode Island is funding.

Warwick Beacon: Citizens Bank provides $9M for W. Warwick housing project

Citizens Bank announced recently that its Community Development Group has provided $9 million in financing in the form of a tax-exempt bond to Pawtucket Development Group, LLC for the acquisition and renovation of a vacant historic mill, known as Lippitt Mill, located in West Warwick, into 65 residential housing units.

UWRI: Awarding $100,000 in Grants From Housing For All Fund

Continuing its commitment to addressing and solving Rhode Island’s lack of housing affordability, United Way of Rhode Island (UWRI) is awarding $100,000 in grants from its Housing For All Fund to four local organizations. Funds will be distributed in January 2018, and each organization was selected for their ability to put promising program ideas into action to facilitate change at the systems level.
