Providence Journal: $3.8M in blight-relief grants approved by RI Housing

A playground for an elementary school in South Providence, downtown revitalization in Woonsocket, and a new continuing-education center in Central Falls were among the projects that won support in the first round of awards from the $10-million urban revitalization/blight relief fund approved by state voters in 2016 as part of the $50-million affordable housing bond.

RIPR: Affordable Housing Advocates: Grants Help, But Need Persists

Woonsocket and East Providence will receive nearly $2.4 million in federal grants to help revitalize local neighborhoods and increase affordable housing. The grants were announced on Sunday by Rhode Island's U.S. senators, Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse.
