The town wants to purchase private property off North Main Road that would provide affordable housing while preserving the watershed of the main reservoir.

Home prices in Rhode Island continued to climb in the third quarter of 2017, as the median house price hit $265,000, “the highest quarterly median price in a decade,” according to the state Realtors’ association.

The State Housing Resources Commission (HRC) is pleased to announce the availability of resources under the Building Homes Rhode Island (BHRI) program, a State-funded (Affordable Housing Bond) initiative. The West Warwick Housing Authority announced their partnership with the University of Rhode Island’s Community Health Student Nurses; Program. Student nurses, participating in the program, visit the Housing Authority’s two elderly/disabled developments at West Warwick Manor and Clyde Tower to conduct health screening of residents. Many residents have benefited from the program.

Just a few notes of wonder and questions from the “Resident Island Pundit.” We have two ignominious failures at the Town Hall level that stand out. Many more that are present, but there are some just below the radar, such as the $60,000 cost per pupil at the school. Then the $8,000,000 internet.

With the current travails of Edward Roberge, the Town Council appointed Town Manager, whose negotiations are on hold until he finds housing on Block Island, the Town of New Shoreham is facing what Town Councilor Chris Willi says is a “critical issue” that should be addressed by providing a “housing stipend.” (Roberge told The Block Island Times on Wednesday that he feels he’s getting closer to finding housing.)
